Hi Guys/Girls, I was given a slightly used new model fluval canister 405 which I was excited to receive until I went to use it.  I opened it up to put the usual carbon etc in when I smelled what I believe is pinesol.

Someone tell me that I can run this in vinegar or something to eliminate this so I can use the filter. I don't want to have to throw it out, but will if it can't be used...(what a shame, btw, it was picked up at a garage sale by my uncle)

Any advice is appreciated

Well, for anyone that is interested. I checked with a chemist and he said no point as it pinesol will continue to leach out over a very long period so I decided just to buy all new.
