All Those Cichlid Pros, I Need Help In Food Choice!!!!
|
 | sunny231 posted on Jul 25, 2010 @ 10:42pm: | | Markham ON 163 posts 6 feedbacks | |
i have a 55 gallon tank with about 25 fish in it. Range from 1" to 3.5" there all doing good but i want there colours to be more vibrant and want them to remain healthy and active as well. I need help from you pros to give me advice on what type of food you choose to feed your fish. The brand and type , example (flake food) i want my fish to benefit as much as possible.
i have these type of cichlids:
: Pseudotropheus demasoni(Pombo Rocks)
: Protomelas sp. "Steveni
Taiwan" (Taiwan Reef)
: Pseudotropheus socolofi
: Sciaenochromis fryeri (Likoma Is.)
: Melanochromis cyaneorhabdos
: Pseudotropheus sp. "Elongatus
Yellowtail"
:Labidochromis caeruleus(yellow lab)
: Metriaclima estherae (Red)
: Labidochromis sp. "Perlmutt"
I have read the brand new life spectrum is the best brand of food for cichlids. there so many opinions on the net i rather hear from all you guys in one forum.
***all i ask is to post the brand and type of food you feed your cichlids. Example: new life spectrum (pellets)
if you guys can, give me some places where i can buy the good quality food fairly cheap from breeders or other places near or if possible within Markham, because stores are a little to expensive for my liking. Maybe a range of $7-$15 if possible. cheaper the better.***
also is prime the water conditioner worth it or is it the same as other companies?
This post will benefit other people in this forum because it will provide a lot of information to people who are new to cichlids or having problems with feeding.
Thanks So much for your time. Please post on this thread for others and i.

So this NLS food can I buy in the store ? What am I looking for ? Is there different types ? Hope you dont mind my questions sunny ...thanks |
You can buy NLS in the store. I prefer the 1mm pellets unless I'm feeding large fish. I just use the standard cichlid mix, I think it may even be for Africans. Its a great product and I highly recommend it!
thank you very much ! I am starting to get stressed ... I am going to big als tomorrow for RO water and will grab a couple sizes . its only for 2 months so I dont need huge amounts . there are a few huge pleco's in there but I have that covered ! what are africans ? | I meant African cichlids as opposed to South American or Central American. On a side note all of my plecos love the 1mm NLS pellets!

OMFG their are different types ? Think I may be in trouble !
Another Q I forgot to ask .... how much do you feed them ?
how many times a day ?
pleco's really eat this food as well ?
I will have to look up ingredients now !
honestly my only fear is having any her fish die ...I dont want to make her cry .
We will start moving water up after the weekend then I will get pics ,maybe that will help ,so I can find out how to care for them without bugging her , she just had a break up and is now a single mom of 2 ,so she is very stressed .

Please don't be stressed blossom112. You can buy from anyone you want. We are just responding to your request for information and no one will take offense to what you decide. We would prefer you bought it from a PN member after all that is why they advertise here. But if that is such a stress don't pay any attention to it.

Do they look sort of like this? http://www.cichlid-forum.com/profil...ies.php?id=1730 but different colours? Most often people keep Malawi mbuna or Malawi haps. Some CA fish are pretty popular too, mainly firemouths and Jack Dempsey. If they're from South America they're likely to be Severums or Rams. If any of those don't fit the bill you can post a picture. Most people who post on the site can probably give you a positive ID. Don't be too stressed, cichlids are the hardiest fish out there. I actually feed almost all of my fish NLS, even my nano barbs, I just grind up the food in a pepper mill.

| LoL. John isn't one for deep discounts but being called cute, easy, cool and being missed. I can see him make an extra trip this month with a modified price list if you are willing to repeat those words to him. And hubby can take you out to dinner with the savings. OK I am stretching it a bit but it is such a nice day.

i can add on that john is a very very nice man. as far as giving deals he wont. he told me that he will most likely never give a deal because you get what you pay for. he is not like other guys that are trying to get rid of fish because the lack of tanks or space within a tank. hes selling it to people in the hobby that want to enjoy very healthy and colourful fish. yes i asked him for the deal and he responded with this. i didnt mind cuz it was true. plus when u go to john he has like over 30 tanks set up full of all kinds of peacocks to different type of cichlids. hes amazing!!!! i bought 10 fish from him for 50 dollars. and i know it sounds really bad as far as price goes, but if u look at my fish now... there insanely pleasurable as far as colour and size goes. they grow up fast if u feed them the right stuff. i bought them from john about 1"-2" and now there all about 3-4.5" inches. and there colours are getting more colourful.
thanks
i will always recommend my man john.
